There is so much energy in the air and excitement with the onset of the new school year and the anticipation of increasing our one-to-one mentoring in the school-based mentoring program! Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Southern Pennyrile is kicking off the 2008-2009 school year with a “Back-to-School Bash” on August 23, 2008 co-sponsored by Hopkinsville Kiwanis Club and Lucius Hawes & Kurt Anderson Attorneys at Law. This event will be a fun-filled time for mentors to get re-acquainted with their “Little” and for new volunteers to have the opportunity to meet some of the children on our waiting list and learn more about the school-based mentoring program. The Back-to-School Bash will be held at the Herb Hayes Pavilion/Ruff Park on North Drive from 10:00 am until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 23rd. School-based mentoring is way of making a difference in a child’s life that could last a lifetime - simply by giving one hour, one day a week, of your time to a child with academic or social needs. A case manager will find a school conveniently located in proximity to your workplace/home, whereby you can spend 30 minutes socializing and 30 minutes helping a child academically.
