Big Brothers Big Sisters in Murray–Calloway County
It's Back to School Time
“I love this time of year! The kids start back to school, the MSU student Bigs and my Interns are back….things really start buzzing at BBBS!
Recently we signed up 20 new High School Bigs for Murray High/Murray Elementary Buddy Program and matches will be initiated next week.
50% of the MHS Bigs we matched last year are now attending Murray State University and are keeping their matches going with their Littles. That’s certainly great for retention and beneficial to the Littles.
We will be busy over the next several weeks scheduling interviews, creating new matches and setting new goals. I will be speaking to the Youth and Non-Profit Leadership classes soon to spread the word that BBBS needs mentors and volunteers for special events.
Our Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority has already contacted me to plan a Halloween Party for our Littles again this year. They chose BBBS as their local philanthropy last year, which was beneficial in so many ways, and they are excited about being involved again. I’m certain this year’s event will prove to be more fun than ever.
Fundraising
With the United Way blackout lifted, the door is wide open for fundraising opportunities and we are exploring many ideas. Dottie Kreamer, Resource Council Member and Buddy Campaign Chair, has already set up some important meetings that should result in profitable returns.
Volunteer
Interested in volunteering? As the new school year begins, we recruit and train volunteers to help us plan and execute fun events that will serve the children and families of this area to the best of our ability. For more information, contact Suzy Crook at 270-759-2227 or email at bbbs@murray-ky.net.
